Serious Question about Ivory-billed Woodpecker

Why is it on the Dade County list? Did someone really see a confirmed Ivory-billed in Dade County? When was this, 1510? Was Ponce de Leon a conquistador AND a birder? "Sir, I believe we've found the fountain of youth! SHhhh! I think I have an Ivory-billed Woodpecker in my monoculars. These are going to be important birds one day when they are almost all gone."
