Yes Toe, they once lived in Miami-Dade County, I could've told you so silly man. As J. Hutchinson said, the last record for Florida was in 1967/68 in Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring. The woodpeckers have apparently been rediscovered in the Florida Panhandle by Geoff Hill and his Auburn University team back in 2005 (not the 1990's!). I say apparently because their video is just as bad as the Luneau video from Arkansas, even though scores of vocalizations have been confirmed. Pretty promising if you ask me. Two more good books to read are "Ivorybill Hunters"(2007) - Panhandle woodpeckers, and "The Grail Bird" (2005) - Arkansas woodpeckers. I'll tell you more about what Tricia mentioned later in the week.
