Forgot to mention that I'm aware that there are 17 subspecies on the Hairy Woodpecker. Sizes can range from 8.5 to10.5 in. While I didn't have a ruler in the field:) it looks to me to be on the shorter side. The ones up in Canada are on the larger size.
