Wasn't that my logic for the Red-eyed vireo a while back? Should we all have to climb trees to verify? (See past posts re REVI in Corkscrew)
This is not an unfriendly inquiry. I have always considered "sound" some evidence-not all the evidence. Mimics such as blue jays are good at many calls but birds such as quail, Whip-poor-wills etc normally are not mimiced. An experienced field person such as VL I believe can ident birds by sound--thus, as far as I am concerned it happened and he believes it and I traffic on that evidence.
But will nay-sayers now come forward and say "too early in the season, never been known, where is the picture, etc. " I hope not.
Congrats VL, my hope is someday to put you on to a rare bird that adds to your list.
