Thanks to tips from Bob Mellor and Sherri Siers, I was able to chalk-up species #161 today for my Collier County Big Year attempt. The bird in question was Eastern Whip-poor-will. We heard at least two birds from the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary parking lot (car park for all of the British twitchers) vocalizing loudly from 6:00AM to 6:30AM. Unfortunately, the birds were deep in the pine flatlands so we did not see them. However, I count all birds that I can identify by call so thus, this bird was added to my list.
