A few Vermilion Flycatchers visit in the winter. They don't stay. The closest breeding population is in the Yucatan.

They would not be migrating, and so would likely not be picked up by Barry.

House Finches occur in small numbers south of Tallahassee. I've seen them in Ft. Lauderdale and at/near Barnes. They were also noted in Palm Beach county during the atlas project.

This means House Finch is much, much more likely than Vermilion. Among red birds, Summer Tanager would also be more likely than Vermilion. There's also the possibity of exotics. A proper description (or better a photo) is needed to make this report more credible.

Now if the display flight had been mentioned, it would be a different story...

One last thing: I thought I had seen a very similar report before, either here or on one of the Florida listserves, but I can't find it. It too pointed to the call.
