In your original post, you said that you thought at first that the bird you heard singing was a cardinal. Go to http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/376/overview/Vermilion_Flycatcher.aspx, click on "Vermilion Flycatcher Voice" and listen to the recording. Then go to http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/105/overview/House_Finch.aspx and do the same. Which one sounds more like the bird you saw and heard? Which one sounds more like a cardinal?
