House Finches have been breeding in Florida since 1989. They are increasingly rapidly in the central Peninsula -- there must be easily hundreds, if not thousands of pairs scattered throughout u7rban and suburban areas -- and they probably will similar colonize the southern Peninsula over the next 5-10 years.
A review of Christmas Bird Count data from Florida from the past 10 years illustrates the population increase and range expansion.
As to what the West Palm Beach birds are, I can't say, without a description. But I will bet that they are not Vermilion Flycatchers. I briefly considered a late Painted Bunting, but two singing males and a female probably negate that possibility. John is correct to consider some other exotic, but House Finch remains the most logical species.
