My morning was spent at Robbin s Park which is on Hiatus Road between Orange Drive (SW 45th St. Ft. Lauderdale) and State Road 84 looking for birds, butterflies, and dragonflies. In past summers this park had produced singing Black-whiskered Vireos and nesting Carolina Wrens but neither of these species was found today. There were a few Chimney Swifts around; they have been seen regularly in this area during the summer for the last few years.
Polydamus Swallowtails were common in the hammock area with a large concentration at the western end of the park. There were also a good number of Statira Sulphurs in the hammock which was surprising this far inland, there host plant; Coinvine, is normally found nearer the coast.
