Coonties are very hardy plants,one of my favorites too.
If they can survive and in fact thrive after a burn, I think a little leaf chewing is only going to stimulate them.
I have personally witnessed coontie roots that have returned from dormancy after several years to flourish.
Got any Atalas I can have?
