Hairstreaks are a group of butterflies (odd name isn't it?) Atala, Bartrams Scrub-hairstreak and Great Purple hairstreak. Each is drawn to a particular plant. the Atala goes for the Zamia (coontie) and there is nothing left when they finish with it. That's why I was a bit curious watching them munch their way through a stopper that was next to a coontie at Hoechoka Hammock. Good golly, if they migrate to other plants for food where will it stop? They may eventually attack sabal palms!

The Atala belongs in the Family known as "Hairstreaks and Blues".

Boy, are we desperate here or what? All this talk about butterflies. Must be a slow dull birding summer here in South Florida.
