At Green Cay Wetlands, in the area near the owl box near the chickee hut, I saw a hummingbird moving from tree to tree - I had eyes on it for maybe 2 minutes, but could not get a shot of it. It was a very vivid shade of yellow - both wings, and full torso & tail all seemed yellow upperparts, with buff or whitish underparts and a slight buff or white cap on the head. The bill was black as far as I could tell. This was a yellow bright enough that the bird actually stood out in the sunlight almost like a point of light, which is how it attracted my attention while I was photographing warblers. The yello was as clearly defined as a prairie warbler's color - except the fast wingbeats, hovering in place, downcurved tail when balancing in front of flowers, and extremely long, thin beak. I tried looking up hummingbirds and can find no mention of a yellow breed. Would anyone know if any Florida hummingbird goes through a yellow color when juvenile, breeding or non-breeding, etc.?
