I don't think it could have been a moth - I was able to see the beak fairly clearly - no antennae - and it had the trademark flight patterns of a hummingbird, with fast, coordinated movement from one bud or flower to another, then a steady hover in front of each, with the wings a blur and the tail ruddering around.
I suppose it also could have had some leucistic properties - that also might explain the much lighter appearance of the bird, and again some pollen coating it could have enhanced the yellow effect. The sun was late afternoon, from behind my back, and lighting up the bird very directly, so it was very bright light I was seeing it in.
