In early June I visited a small patch of Man-in-the-Ground Morning Glories in Everglades National Park that I have been keeping an eye on for several years and have tried to photograph in bloom for almost as long. That morning luck was with me and one plant had a long stem with many buds and a couple of open flowers and I took many photos. I returned to the site two weeks later and had a hard time relocating the vine. After a few minutes I found what was left of that plant along with the likely suspect, a rather large caterpillar. I have attached a photo of the flowers and a link to a photo of the caterpillar. I am curious to know the identity of the caterpillar and whether the structures along its back belong to it or to some parasite. This is my first attempt at posting photos so bear with me it it doesn't go right the first time.
