In early June I visited a small patch of Man-in-the-Ground Morning Glories in Everglades National Park that I have been keeping an eye on for several years and have tried to photograph in bloom for almost as long. That morning luck was with me and one plant had a long stem with many buds and a couple of open flowers and I took many photos. I returned to the site two weeks later and had a hard time relocating the vine. After a few minutes I found what was left of that plant along with the likely suspect, a rather large caterpillar. I have attached a photo of the flowers and a link to a photo of the caterpillar. I am curious to know the identity of the caterpillar and whether the structures along its back belong to it or to some parasite.
