i've lived in fl for the last 19 years. about 15 years ago i was working i west fl and stopped on 441 between ft myers and naples to use a pay phone (years before i had my first cell phone). it was about dusk and i saw 7 flamingoes flying west overhead not 100 ft above me. i was an amateur birder but a veteran horse player and had seen the flight of the flamingos at least 100 times at hialeah race track. i thought at the time it was interesting but not unusual. in the 15 years that followed i saw not a single flamingo. if the bird will hang around and i get a couple of free hours i will try to get down to cutler wetlands to see it. and great pictures one and all. as a rank amateur i find the pictures and the discussions posted here much more helpful than all of the bird books i own.
