Bill,

Another opinion would be welcome as would any opinions or observation from Robertson and Woolfenden 1992, Stevenson and Anderson 1994 regarding Flamingos in South Florida or any other questionable reported sighting.

I see these two works listed referenced often, but I don't recall seeing them quoted recently. I haven't been able to locate a copy for my library so it is hard for me to read the references you are recommending.

It would be awesome if you could enlighten us by giving us information you have that we don t easily have access to. I imagine that at the Doc Thomas House library may have these books available. But at this time all of the people that I know that have access to the library are traveling the world observing and listing birds.

The TAS bird board is the best thing going for bird watchers who live in or are traveling to South Florida. People regularly and accurately post their observations, photographs and advice for people looking to observe birds and other wild life in this area.

As far as getting the opinion of a few listers and one point of view

If it were not for listers there would be much less data available for the Professional Ornithologists and researcher to work with. Most of the so called listers I have met over the last few years are very well read, highly educated and experienced in the field, making solid observations and report to the proper authorities anything unusual. They also participate in many bird counts, studies and support the birding community with their donations.

As for me, as soon as the Flamingo was spotted I began researching the possible origins for a lone Flamingo in south Florida. I searched the internet, searched through my library of bird books, used my subscription to BNA online and called the local zoo curator to see if the bird may be an escapee. So far everything I have read and observed leads me to believe the Flamingo currently being seen at Cutler Wetland is a wild bird.

Instead of belittling us lowly listers, why don t you shed some light on the situation if you think there is another opinion not being heard.

Maybe you were not trying to belittle anyone, but just trying advise that there maybe other opinions.

IMHO your comment came across as elitist. It has been my experience that TAS bird board is open to anyone who has a relevant observations, information or opinions.

So feel free to be helpful add your information or opinion.
