It took a long time till I got a regular pair of cardinals visiting my yard. What I noticed, is that once the shrubbery and vegetation in the yard became more dense they came on a regular basis. You are right about the nectar solution. It has to be kept fresh or the hummers won't take it. I change it every 3 days if it 80 degrees or above, or if any sediment/cloudiness of the solution appears. I monitor it every day. Less than 80 degrees I change it every 4-6 days. It is best to change it while the solution still looks clear so the hummers will always have fresh soln.. As long as you keep your feeders with seed the parakeets will return at some point since they remember your yard as a food source. Make sure that your wild bird seed mix has adequate black oil sunflower seed in it as it is a preferred seed. I sometimes buy a large bag of this type seed and add extra to my general mix.
