Yesterday afternoon Thomas Dunkerton found a grebe at stop #8 along the Canaveral National Seashore that he felt was inconsistent with the Horned Grebes he usually runs across during the winter. He took a few pics of the bird and some notes which he posted on our Birding Florida facebook group. This morning Tom Dunk was back out there and relocated the bird along with other birders that all got great views of the grebe. The conclusion that is was indeed an EARED GREBE was backed up by experienced sea-watcher Mitchell Harris a little while later. The grebe is being seen at stop #8 and is spending lots of time diving which makes it harder to locate. Word on the beach right now is that it is staying at scope distance, but is sticking to that area. Winds are picking up along the coast and sea watching should improve, who knows maybe they will find another rarity.

Nature is Awesome
