Radar ( which was named after "radio waves" but radar is actually smaller) is a type of electromagnetic radiation ( like microwaves and visible light). It is used to detect objects in the air ( such as airplanes) by hitting and bouncing off the objects.So, anything that is moving in the atmosphere ( Like a flock of birds) would show up.
