Cuban Grassquits are beautiful birds that are quite common in the cage bird trade. I saw some for sale about a year ago in Kendall at a pet shop for $40 each for females. I did not see any males, but I am sure they sell for more. I have seen them for sale in other pet shops around the Miami area. Yellow-faced Grassquits are very popular as well, although the Cuban Grassquit is a better singer than the Yellow-faced Grassquit hence the old name "Melodious Grassquit".
They are both very pretty birds and very popular in the Miami area as pets. Cuban Grassquits in the wild areas of Cuba have become less common because of the extensive cage bird trade. Dozens get smuggled into Miami ever year. It is a shame as it is having an impact on the wild populations.
