Hi Larry,
Wish there was a way to tell the exact origin of this bird. It could have come from the islands near us of an escapee from the Cuban bird trade traffic. Regardless of origin it was nice to see such species near my area. I understand they are more common in Miami-Dade because of the large populations of Cubans down there. I say ¡ Viva, Cuban Grassquit libre! Too bad I did not hear it sing its "freedom" song! As a free bird, I know they are very rare because in dozens of thousands of birds I have seen and spotted I have never seen a single Cuban Grassquit in the wild!
