The confusion and inconsistency in the location aspect of the eBird data entry system has been a major factor in my not participating in eBird. I have detailed records for the Flamingo area of Everglades National Park, the Bear Lake Road and Trail area in particular going back for over a decade at all times of the year. When I tried to assign a location for my sightings using the Ebird mapping system I found a cluster of designated locations on the map in this area, all of which were mislabeled. I assumed these locations were created by visiting birders who were unfamiliar with that area. I considered creating my own properly labeled sites for my records but dismissed this believing that this would only add to the confusion.
