Hi Folks,
Thanks to Brennan for pointing out that, according to eBird, it seems as though several Vermilion Flycatchers are frequenting the south Miami-Dade area at this moment. This is a case of not choosing the right location for the two VEFLs that are truly present at the C-111 canal/Southern Glades Trail section. This is where the spreader canal begins at the S-199 structure.
All this information is important because it distinguishes the true VEFL location from say the C-111E, which as Toe will tell you is a whole other birding hot spot. The C-111E location is one example where several of the sightings for the two VEFLs have been attributed to. I will contact some of these birders and try to correct this problem.
There are however some other locations, some in the vicinity and some farther away (one even gives a specific address - 36600 SW 202nd Ave) where VEFLs have been reported. Odds are these are also mistakes but I will contact the reviewer to see what the thought is.
Bird on,
RJ
