The Strangler Fig along the Anhinga Trail blacktop has developed many fissures and crevices. On this day as we searched the area a small black snake emerged. It appears to have the markings of a Black Swamp Snake (Seminatrix pygaea cyclas). It was very glossy, solid black but a shading of sorts that appeared reddish under the chin. I couldn't see the belly as the detritus on the ground covered it. In the tree, all that poked out was a small part of the head. Eastern indigo also comes to mine but that would just be too lucky.
