Regarding the Truitt guide, the ranges of snake species have retracted quite a bit since the early 60's. I own the Bartlett and Bartlett, 2003 guide "Florida Snakes". It is the most recent publication on Florida snakes, and the Bartletts have put a great deal into their work (as well as assisting me in planning a birding/herping trip to Peru, May '10).

Many new taxonomical changes and exotic species additions should be expected in later guides. African Rock Pythons and Ball Pythons have been discovered to be breeding in the Miami area, along with the Burmese Pythons and Red-tailed Boas. And as for the amount of lizards recently confirmed to be breeding in south Florida, the folks at UF and FIU have more and more work to do.
