David:
I'm an interested herp. Any idea what snake species you were seeing? If it was too dark to tell, were they big and fat like water mocs, or slender and short like mud snakes, or slender and long like racers? I'm much interested in anything you can tell me.
Sincerely,
Coral Snake Boy
: Rock Jetty, Snail Kite (everybody's getting a new name now...geesh), Myself, and Inga searched from 5:30pm until dark with no sign of the Ani...BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
: We did, however, get good looks at Wilson's Snipe (in the NE corner of the 332-B West holding pond (the Original 232 Wetland), 3 Northern Shovelers, 19 Pied-billed Grebes (eighteen after the Peregrine got one) and dozens of both lesser and greater yellowlegs, not to mention all the wadingbirds including a dozen Wood Storks. Unfortunately the whole area is good habitat for the Ani, so it might take a weekend day to get in a good search, and at this point I'm more inclined to search for a possible Sharp-tailed amongst the Pectorals...
: good birding!
: cheers

: ps. Any interested herp people should check out 232 after dark- we've seen densities of snakes out there beyond anything I've ever seen.
