This morning, pulling into FIU off of 107th Ave, we had a kind of surreal wildlife encounter. A Gray fox crossed the street a few feet in front of our car, heading away from the frat houses and toward Tamiami Park. A few seconds later it was pursued by a Red tailed hawk which also glided past us, a few feet in front of our now stopped car. The hawk seemed to be pursuing the fox, although it did not seem to be an aggressive pursuit. Could a Red-tailed hawk take down a gray fox?
I've known there are foxes on campus for a few years, as one used to hang out near the DM building in the early mornings. Its been a while, though, since I have seen one. What a treat first thing in the morning!
