Today at 6:30 PM I saw for the first time ever a common blackhawk. It's markings were exactly as pictured in the Sibley guide as an adult bird.
On Boynton Beach Blvd. about 150 yards east of SR 7 (441)
it was perched on a wire overlooking a shallow canal and it would swoop down and grab something that I couldn't make out with his talons and fly back to the wire and eat its prey. I watched this happen about 4 times before I had to go.
Has anyone else ever seen this bird in south Florida, as I am wondering how common they are in this area.
I go to work this way every day and will post again if I see it again.
