Cindy, great shots of a challenging subject. This is a female Common Yellowthroat. Orange-crowned warbler wouldn't be so bright yellow below and would look more gray/green above and show a fairly prominent dark eyeline. The skulking behavior you describe is typical of this species. The strongly contrasting yellow throat is also a good clue for this species.
