Yesterday as we were leaving to work we were stopped in our tracks by a Cooper's Hawk engaged in a dogfight type aerial display that awed us. The Cooper's was only inches away from snatching a Eurasian-collared Dove when the dove took an evasive action to the left toward the building, that's when the COHA held off and regrouped in a tree across from where the (dove)/Bird Feeder under the Manager's Appt is located. We were running to work so we unfortunately did not see the conclusion to the battle between the Hawk and the fast flying Dove. I am sure that the COHA most probably picked up at least one dove, being that the feeder always attracts 10 or so doves all day long. On the subject of the COHA taking up residency there has been a COHA at Barnes every time we go. A times we have even seen two imm. together with a large female perched up just above them. There are always plenty of birds here to enjoy and we don't think that the COHA has hurt population enough to be noticed.
With Panthers being so scarce it worries us that we might not be able to show our next generation this awesome predator. COHA migrate where FL Panthers are just moving to stay alive. We have taken up to much land and drive irresponsibly through Panther habitat all in the name of development. It would be a shame to lose this beautiful predator.
SAVE THE PANTHERS!

Nature is Awesome
