i'm with you on the panther thing, it is one of my hopes to see one [or more] in my lifetime. i get excited when i see reports from research rd. or loop road, and when i have more time, this is going to become a mission of mine. hunting peregrines in the fall is something i love to do, i'm a raptor fanatic. but watching the damage the 'chicken hawks' have caused here has been horrific. birds and critters that i have enjoyed watching for years have all been wiped out. if it were legal, i would have shot the coopers, no ifs, ands or buts. when urban habitat is as uncommon and fragmented as it is, my place has been an island where things can thrive, that's over. they have killed everything. there is a reason big predators were villified, they can wreak havoc on things. am i glad panther and croc numbers are up? of course. but when they start to cause problems, you can't treat them the same as when they were on the brink. i don't mean to upset anybody who has worked hard on the efforts to save some of these creatures, i have had a panther tag for years. but i'm seeing the unintended damage that can happen firsthand when efforts are maybe a bit too successful. kd
