In the interest of giving the local avians a bath facility more respectable than the bromeliads and other plants with leaves that permit them to moisten their feathers, or have a sip of water after a rain, I installed a birdbath a few months ago, but have had precious few visitors.(Of course I did actually fill the bowl..)Recently, I cleaned out the accumulated algae etc, and was drying it out, when one of the reasons I have so few birds appeared.(see photo)
This is one of a number of feral cats who frequent my neighborhood. How best to be rid of him/them? Obviously, I will elevate the birdbath(I have no desire for it to be a cat feeder), and will put some sort of spikes around it to make it inhospitable underfoot(underpaw?)-but I am more interested in being rid of the cats, short of some Sopranos-style ending. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions? No amount of taming will bring the cats close enough to be trapped and deported, so I am seeking alternatives...
Thanks in advance for your suggestions...
