I have a similar problem. Fortunately, the only feather puddles I ever see are from Eurasian Collared Doves. The live cat traps work well. Use tuna fish, not cat food. Your local municipality may have traps to loan out. Also make sure that weeds are trimmed for several feet around your feeder to a height of 18 to 24 inches, so there are no hiding and ambush spots.
I am experimenting with a new technique, namely stringing some single filament fishing line unobtrusively in the areas where cats are likely to hide. Then when they accellerate to catch a bird they will get caught up in the (difficult to see) lines and hopefully wring their little necks.
