The Kendall CBC on December 23 was a fun and successful day for the 19 birders who participated. We finished with 124 species (+ 9 exotics), which was only 2 species off the all-time record.

Species highlights were a Western Spindalis observed by Team Deering, a Nashville Warbler by Team Barnes, Franklin s Gulls, Hooded Mergansers, and Black-necked Stilts by Team Black Point, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, Western Kingbird and Swainson s Hawk (dark phase) by Team Thompson, and a Tennessee Warbler by Team Matheson.

13 species new to the Count were found: Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Hooded Merganser, Bald Eagle, Black-necked Stilt, Western Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher, Franklin s Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Western Spindalis, and Baltimore Oriole. New exotics included Red-masked Parakeet, White-fronted Parrot, Lilac-crowned Parrot, and Sacred Ibis.

In addition, American Wigeon and Spot-breasted Oriole were seen Count Week only.

Several species were missed altogether for the first time ever in the count, including Ruddy Duck, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Black-bellied Plover, Bonaparte s Gull, Pileated Woodpecker, White-eyed Vireo, Ovenbird, and Lark Sparrow.

New high numbers were recorded for a large number of species.

I want to express my thanks and gratitude for all the participants who worked hard to make this Count a success:

Team Matheson - Jeff Weber, Miguel Padura, Joe Barros, and Edith Einspruch
Team Deering - Roberto Torres, Ernie Lent, Bill Searcy, Margaret Searcy, and Christopher Searcy
Team Black Point - Paul Bithorn and Trey Mitchell
Team Kendall - Alan Steinberg and Sam Frohman
Team Thompson - Bryant Roberts and Matt Muller
Team Barnes - Brian Rapoza, Robin Diaz, and Kathy Burkhart

See you in 2007!

Bill Boeringer
