The Stripe-headed Tanager (excuse me, Western Spindalis) was inside the Deering Estate. There is a historic avocado grove north of the maintenance buildings that has a hammock on the western edge. Walking north along this edge you reach a trail entrance that leads into the hammock at the north end of the grove. The Spindalis was seen in a large mastic tree at this trail entrance. It then flew west deeper into the hammock.

This area is only accessible to the public if accompanied by one of Deering's guide staff.
