They are still "conures" to alot of bird breeders. If you go to a bird shop, they are still called conures.
There is a book called "Encyclopedia of Parakeets" by Kolar and Spitzer.Yes, they list the numerous types of birds typically called parakeets ( long tail, hook bill, basically) and that inclues cockatiels as well.
Perhaps it is better to , for instance , refer to the blue crowned by their scientific name,Aratinga acuticaudata.
Great pics in this book.
By the way, I have a pet maroon-bellied "conure". I should ask her whether she prefers to be called a parakeet or conure.
