Today a flammulated owl (Otus flammeolus) came in as the 1,878 patient this year to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. Wildlife Rehabber Yaritza Acosta thought it looked a bit different than a screech owl and suggested that it might be a flammulated owl. Rangel Diaz visually confirmed the identification with the help of Alex Harper & Robin Diaz.

The bird is undergoing rehabilitation and is NOT on display to visiting birders. However, if it survives and recovers to be released, a public release will be planned with roughly 48-hours advance notice. Please do not come by the Seabird Station to attempt to see the bird or call to inquire about it. You are encouraged to follow us on Facebook for updates on the bird.

We celebrate our 35th Anniversary in 2015 & have taken in over 10,000 birds and wildlife species since 2010. We are funded through donations & happen to be in the middle of our 21st Annual Fish Drive. Please consider a donation of $10 or more to help feed our pelicans, seabirds and other injured patients here at - http://pelicanharbor.org/
