Was in Downtown earlier today. Nothing much this morning in the yard, and on the Bird Board. For some reason I stopped at Sewell Park on the Miami River and 17th avenue. Lots of native vegetation, but the park can be quite edgy, unfortunately. Got out of my car, walked along the fence that borders the hammock. I spent no more than 30 minutes in the park. Immediately, the second bird I found (after catbirds) was a gorgeous prothonotary munching on fruit. The figs were all full of birds. Many Cape May, surprised about yellow-throated this late, many redstarts, and my FOS male blackpoll, 14 warbler sp. in total, sorry Carlos at AD Barnes! No ovenbird for me, but had palms and the prothonotary- not bad. In the hammock, I watched a dark blob turn into a radiant indigo bunting, coming right out. In a cluster of wild coffee, my eyes caught a blue grosbeak (!) a bird I don't get very often. All this in a 150-200 foot area. A barn swallow flew down the river. No joke, things about that park can be a bit shocking, but it was easily my best migration day this year. Got home a few minutes ago, and there indigos in the easement....
