I grew up off 22nd avenue and NW 4th street and that was my neighborhood birding spot. Ezequiel Bugallo was the first to introduce it to me and I always had good luck. To the "locals" it's known as Parque de los Locos AKA Crazy Park. There can be some shady stuff going on sometimes (especially when it was real overgrown) but it was a pretty good spot. During the Valhalla II (Torres 2011) fallout that park was dripping with birds. Of course it wasn't anything compared to Cape Florida that year but it definitely boosted my Little Havana list. Referring back to the shadiness, there were SO many birds that a group of 13 kids were hucking rocks into the trees to try and hit the dozens of buntings (both Inidgo and Painted). If you get there early enough and are nice to the attendant he might let you bird the locked portion of the park and that's where the real action is.
