Brown Thrasher question

This morning we had a Brown Thrasher singing in the top of a tree; we don't have them in our Parkland suburban neighbourhood outside of Spring as far as I have seen. They appear now, breed, then disappear. Does anyone know anything about the migratory movements of Brown Thrashers in South Florida? My references make it seem as though they are resident, but that doesn't match what I see.
On another note, this male seems to be the same one who has returned for seven or eight years. He has tail feathers that grow in a disorganized way, so he is individually recognizable (unless this is a common problem for thrashers!).
