I do not believe that there has ever been any proof that the species has caused any ecological damage. I know that at one point they conjectured that they might compete with the Purple Gallinule, but at least at Green Cay, the PG's had all but disappeared long before the Swamphens arrived and bred. Does anyone have updated information on the eradication program and its effect?
