The eradication campaign was discontinued after two years and over 3,000 swamphens collected. The swamphens continued to expand their range and the eradication process did not seem to hurt the population as they originally thought it would. Even with all full out eradication campaign, these birds proved to be tough and the population continued to grow and expand to different sites across South FL. Bill Pranty wrote a great article about the Purple Swamphen in the 2013 May/June edition of the ABA's Birding magazine, check it out.
