Today Brad Carlson (NY) searched for the Western Spindalis from 12-5 PM. He allowed himself 5 hours to search and just before leaving, he checked once more west of the Bad to the Bone trailhead and found the bird. It was very quiet this afternoon and would vocalize with a single high-pitched "tsee" about once an hour. After he found it, it vocalized for a few minutes, then flew to a nearby scaevola and perched about 2 feet off the ground and preened. Jim King and I observed this same behavior last week, when it quietly sat low in the reeds and preened.

For anyone entering this Western Spindalis on eBird, the Hotspot is "Virginia Key Ecosystems Restoration Area."
