There has been a solo banded American Flamingo in the NW corner of Snake Bight for at least the last 6 days. This bird was first seen by Garl Harrold of Garl's Coastal Kayaking. He took some very nice photos of the bird on Sept 6th. The bird has a white field readable marker with black code HRTJ on the right leg and an unreadable silver band on the left leg. The band and id configuration are similar to the ones used by researchers in the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, Yucatan, MX. The band also is similar to the one that was seen on the Flamingo in Snake Bight in 2002. I have been inquiring about the origins of this bird and have some good leads and am hopeful to have an answer within the next couple days as to where and when this bird was banded. I will post with any more info that I get.
