I can't help but give my 2-cents worth. Similarily, the natural vagrancy of White-cheeked Pintail comes to mind. Does anyone know when the last "accepted" Florida record of this species occurred? It seems that years ago, 60s and 70s, there were a handful of "accepted" records of this duck, but since then there have been few, if any, "accepted".
Why? Are there fewer naturally-occurring White-cheeked Pintails today than years ago and so the chances of one wandering away from home is lessened? Or, are not as many kept in captivity today and so fewer have a chance to escape?
But then again, maybe there are just as many as ever, and those persons that are keeping them in captivity have done a better job of preventing them from escaping. This same argument can be used for the grassquits. Who is to say?
