: I have noticed several flocks of around 20-30 Cave swallows in Everglades National Park yesterday and today(Feb 2-3). They seem to be the Mexican race, with buffy rumps and very light throats. Is this normal? I confess to only paying attention to separating the Mexican race from the Caribbean race for the first time this week.
I have seen large numbers of Cave Swallows for the last two months or more in Everglades National Park. All of the birds that I have seen are the Mexican race birds. On January 26th there was a large number of Cave Swallows coming to roost under the turnpike bridge in Cutler Ridge. The same birds where coming to roost tonight as well, these are the Caribbean birds.
