I had thought it might be Aratinga wagleri (Scarlet-fronted Parakeet), or "Red-fronted Conure" as indicated in Juniper & Parr's Guide to Parrots of the World. The parrot book indicates 4 races of wagleri, one of which (Aratinga wagleri minor) is native to "Maranon Valley south to Ayacucho and Apurimac in C Andes of Peru" and that for that race "some specimens with yellow at bend of wing." The description in this book also indicates that 16,644 birds were exported from Peru in 1982 alone. It's awfully sad that the band on this bird's leg is an "import band" as Howard indicated. I suppose I'm glad it can at least fly free in Miami Springs.

This email contains the other pictures I took of this bird. There were two birds like this one, but all of the photos are of a single bird.
