There was a large pulse of Blackpoll Warblers in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP this morning. I had limited time and only covered a few areas but my count was >320 Blackpolls, about 80% males. They seemed to be mainly in the middle and east sections of the park, especially in Area A. Though we're located in the Blackpoll spring flyway, many years the bulk of this species continues right over us.

There were 13 warbler species, including the expected spring migrants (Cape May, Prairie, Black-throated Blue, Northern Parula, Black-and-white, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Worm-eating, Northern Waterthrush, Ovenbird, Palm, Magnolia and Blackpoll). Other migrants were also around, including Yellow-billed Cuckoo (8), Bobolinks, Solitary (5) and Spotted (2) Sandpipers, Indigo (23) and Painted (2) Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Eastern Kingbird. In Area A it was pretty neat to watch Northern Waterthrush, Palm, Blackpoll, Cape May, Ovenbird, Indigo Bunting and Bobolink feeding next to each other on the ground.

I wasn't in the south part of the park but I didn't hear or see the La Sagra's Flycather in the areas that I covered. I last had it Sunday (4/22) at 5:40 PM, about 40 yards south of the white gate intersection.
