Your "Common Merganser" on Key Biscayne was much more likely a Red-breasted Merganser, common here in winter in coastal waters. I'm still looking for my first Common Merganser in Florida.
: What a great birding day it was today. Davis Noble, from Boston and I went to A.D. Barnes Park and Crandon Park, since we could not go on the Audubon trip. We where looking for wilson plovers, but we could find any. Davis, did get a short tail hawk as a life bird today.
